چکیده

Structural parameters of raw and pre-treated viscose, modal and lyocell fibres were determined using X-ray diffraction, and compared with data obtained from iodine adsorption and tenacity measurements. A good correlation was found between iodine adsorption and structural changes. These structural parameters are correlated with surface thermodynamic parameters obtained by surface tension experiments. Using several liquids of different polarities, the polar and disperse components of the polymers surface free energy were separated. The results obtained indicate that bleaching and mercerisation increases crystallinity and decreases tenacity. Both treatments increase the sorption abilities of all fibres due to a change of the fibre morphology. This is clearly expressed by an increase in polar surface free energies and a reduction -in the disperse components.

Activator Generated Electron Transfer Combined Atom Transfer Radical Polymerization (AGET-ATRP) for Controlled Grafting Location of Glycidyl Methacrylate on Regenerated Cellulose Ultrafiltration Membranes

This investigation indicates the ability to selectively graft glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) only from the external surface of regenerated cellulose (RC) ultrafiltration (UF) membranes using activator generated electron transfer (AGET) atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). This controlled polymerization resulted in epoxy functionalized polymer brush ends. Further reaction of the terminal ep...

Accessibility and Morphology of Cellulose Fibres Treated with Sodium Hydroxide

Cellulose fibres were treated with sodium hydroxide (NaOH) to improve the accessibility of chemical reagents and the roughness of fibre surface at low temperatures. The accessibility, supermolecular structure, morphology, and physical properties of fibres were investigated using solid-state cross polarisation/magic angle spinning 13C nuclear magnetic resonance (CP/MAS 13C NMR), wide-angle X-ray...

Mineralization of regenerated cellulose hydrogels induced by human bone marrow stromal cells.

The proliferation of cultured human bone marrow stromal cells (HBMSC) on regenerated cellulose hydrogels was assessed. Regenerated cellulose hydrogels showed good rates of HBMSC proliferation, the cells exhibiting a flattened morphology, and after 22 days in culture, the cells had homogeneously colonized the surface of the materials. Moreover, since the early days in culture, between the surfac...

Restricted dissolution and derivatization capacities of cellulose fibres under uniaxial elongational stress

Cellulose is a future major source of materials and biofuel but its extraction and its chemical or enzymatic treatments are difficult, polluting and inefficient tasks. The accessibility of the reagents to cellulose chains is indeed limited. Classical evocated reasons for this lack of accessibility are pore structure, tight hydrogen bond arrays, crystallinity and presence of resistant materials ...

Bicomponent fibre mats with adhesive ultra-hydrophobicity tailored with cellulose derivatives

Morphologies featured in bicomponent 2D ultrathin films were reproduced on 3D non-woven microfibre structures. Fibre networks were constructed by electrospinning hydrophobised cellulose derivatives, trimethylsilyl cellulose (TMSC) and cellulose triacetate (CTA), dissolved in a common solvent. Diverse morphologies were obtained depending on the polymer blend ratio: electrospinning of TMSC produc...
